In 1994, with the aid from the World Bank, the community water supply project was launched by the Sri Bodhiraja Foundation. It completed and maintains three (3) ongoing water projects in rural villages located at Darshanagama, Ketagalara and Moderawana that continue to benefit over 1400 families in 8 villages. To sustain the project, a small levy is charged.
With the convenience of pipe - borne water, the housewives have more time for housework or for income-generating activities and the children are able to go to school on time. This community water project was created by the people - for the people with their labor and therefore, this water project has drawn the attention of the public and their enthusiasm more so than other projects. On the other hand, the project promotes awareness on common issues of the community whilst developing accountability through collective responsibility.
The direct maintenance of the project is mainly handled by the Sri Bodhiraja Foundation for the benefit of the whole village. The Foundation is ready to continue further with similar projects, should we receive patronage.
